Who We Are

The Braffet Berry Farm is located in central Illinois in the northwest part of Mclean County. Owners, Curt & Peggy Braffet, have been growing strawberries there since 1995. “We started growing strawberries when we lived outside of Lincoln in the late 80’s and early 90’s. We would take our girls down towards Sherman, Il to a U-Pick farm. One year, we loaded up the car, drove down, and all we saw was wheat fields. So, we went up to the farmer’s door to inquire on the strawberries. "Can’t do it anymore-we’re getting too old and no one wants to take it over.” This being said, we, the Braffets’, bought up their equipment and started planting berries in Beason, IL. Curt’s job later took us to Mclean County where we continue our strawberry growing along with a few hundred blueberry bushes, asparagus and rhubarb.

More about our story

“You cannot go wrong with a sun-kissed strawberry in the summer. They’re a hard crop to grow and very susceptible to the Midwest weather. “Every year we never know what Mother Nature has in store for our crop, but we continue to plant more and Curt continues to give in to his wife’s passion of agriculture and fruits.”

Strawberry season tends to start around Memorial Day weekend, and continue for 3-4 weeks depending again on Mother Nature. We sell them by the pound, and provide buckets which our customers can pick in.
